The practical exercise will consist of a telephone interview with a district court official in the county of your choice. The term district court official will include a judge, the district attorney, the Clerk of Court or any of their assistants. Listed are minimum topics required for your paper: Write the name of the person and his/her email that you interviewed. Demographics about the district court facility (year constructed, cost, why needed, population it serves, annual budget) Interview prosecutor, defense attorneys, bailiff, judge, law enforcement officers, if possible, I recommend making a list of questions that you will ask prior to your trip. Average number of cases that are schedule each day for trial? How many cases are disposed of at the end of the day? Range of crimes that are disposed of in district court How much recidivism occurs? How these cases are dealt with by the court? Number of jail cases each day? Is court safe? Is security an issue? What is the main duties of the district court official that you are interviewing? How court officials/others are protected from dangerous defendants? How does court handles individuals that are FTCs (failure to comply)? How does court handles individuals that are FTA (failure to appear)? What training and policy changes have been implemented because of the coronavirus pandemic? How many and what type of courts are in progress during a week?
