After reading the selections for Week #4, please respond to the following prompt completely:
In week 3, Dr. Duncan argued that income disparities contribute to educational disparities between children and adolescents from the richest 20% of Americas families and the poorest 20% of Americas families. Further he suggested that this association is due at least in part by the disparities in experiences these children in school. On pages 571-575 and 581-612, Eccles and Roeser argued that schools are best understood as a series of nested levels of experience and organization. In Figure 12.1, Eccles and Roeser summarize 7 important levels of of contexts of schooling, ranging for example from academic work taking place within each classroom to school building and school district levels of context to communities, state, and national levels of context. I want you to link these two broad messages by proposing two specific examples of the ways through which family income discrepancies might contribute to the family income associated discrepancies in school academic achievement in each of the seven level summarized by Eccles and Roeser. For example, at the level of academic tracking, children from low income families are more likely to be assigned to remedial or lower level academic tracks and children in lower tracks typically learn less over the academic year than children in high academic tracks.
