GUN CONTROL
Gun control is a measure that tried to restrict the ownership and the use of firearms. The
issue came as a result of the increasing misuse of firearms by individuals in America and other
states across the globe. The issue of gun control is of great interest because of the increasing use
of firearms against the masses despite having a law that regulates the ownership and use of
firearms. The second exciting issue about gun control is that it has both opponents and
proponents who have excellent reasons for their stand on the issue. The opponents of the gun
control feel that the government should allow citizens to own and use gun yet the rate of the
murders using the gun is on the rise. The police and the gun licensing board should put more
effort and ensure that only licensed gun holders to have guns in the country (DeGrazia & Hunt,
(2016).

Gun Control
Gun control is a measure that tried to restrict the ownership and the use of firearms. The
issue came as a result of the increasing misuse of firearms by individuals in America and other
states across the globe. The point of gun control is of great interest because of the growing use of
firearms against the masses despite having a law that regulates the ownership and use of
firearms. The second exciting issue about gun control is that it has both opponents and
proponents who have excellent reasons for their stand on the issue. The opponents of the gun
control feel that the government should allow citizens to own and use gun yet the rate of the
murders using the gun is on the rise. Opponents of gun control also claim that guns are needed
for self-defense including foreign invaders and local criminals. Besides, they also claim that the
ownership of guns prevents crime. The police and the gun licensing board should put more effort
and ensure that only licensed gun holders to have guns in the country (DeGrazia & Hunt, 2016).
Gun control affects the whole nation as a whole. The people who support the idea of gun
control also feel that gun control would reduce crimes. This is because people will minimize the
use of guns where they are not needed. Guns should not be something that one can easily access
for example in cases where one goes to the supermarket to buy vegetables or fruits. Anybody can
buy vegetables and fruits including children. Therefore, if owning guns was made that easy even
children would own them. But if there were restrictions against owning guns, then a lot will be
required before one can get a gun. The government should set up rules that restrict the ownership
of guns such that if one doesn’t have the requirements then, they can’t be allowed to own a gun.
Accepting ownership to a gun means that the name registered under the gun will be responsible

for anything that the gun does. This will make gun owners more responsible because I am sure
nobody wants to be on the wrong side of the law especially in the United States.
In America, since its birth guns have been a part of the nation. Citizens of the USA have
used guns for various things such as to protect their families, protect the country and hunt for
food. Gun control reduces crimes. If guns are controlled, then crimes will decrease. When people
can easily access guns killing becomes easy. When people who are not trained are allowed to
have guns other people are at risk as it can lead to injuries by either suicide or unintentional
incidents. In America, gun violence kills over 30,000 people and injures close to 70,000 people
each year. Guns can be easily misused which is the reason why they should be controlled. In the
USA for example when over 5,000 children and teens died due to gun wounds, in Britain since
gun ownership is controlled, only 19 children and teens died of the same. Therefore if guns are
controlled crimes reduce since nobody would want to kill with a gun registered under their name
(Johnson, 2008).
Gun control brings violence. With the use of technology, news spread at a high rate such
that no week goes by without hearing about gun violence. Violence divides people and society at
large. Some people are against, and others support the issue of gun control. But for a community
or nation to function well, everybody must work together. In the United States and the world in
general, people always bring up violence if the government cannot do what they want to be done.
The laws about the ownership of guns should be made strict. When it is too easy for people to get
guns, it increases crimes; therefore the government needs to act fast. When there is a gap
between the government and the people due to violence caused by guns, it makes it hard for

society to function as it is required of them. It’s only fair for the government to bring laws that
govern gun ownership to be able to curb violence and by so doing the society will be united.
