Between the ages of 6 and 12 both of parents were working. My father worked the graveyard shift and my mother was a substitute teacher and a fulltime student completing her B.A in child development and teaching credentials. When I was in kindergarten and first grade I went to my elementary schools before and after school program and their program staff is who cared for me. From second to 6th grade my father was able to pick me up from school or grandparents. I would do homework with my mom or one of grandparents once I was picked up after school. As I got older, I did not need much assistance in completing my homework. During this time(6-12 years) I spent time inside, but I spent most of time outdoors either playing with the neighborhood kids, in our backyard, or family camping trips during breaks and the occasional weekend. From time to time I did send time with my peers outside of school more so as I got older. When reflecting on these experiences I feel like they had appositive influence on my development. I feel like I was/am more independent than most children at the age.
