Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, choose a professional nursing organization and review the organization’s website. Based on your understanding of the organization, answer the following questions:

• What was the organization’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic?
• Do you think the response was adequate? Why or why not?

I chose ANA American Nurses Association they are being committed in keeping everyone informed of the coronavirus and giving updates. They have a coronavirus update webpage social media channels and email. They are following CDC guidelines with social distancing so a lot of their employees are teleworking and continuing to support nurses and their families with the coronavirus. On their webpage they have a coronavirus response fund for donations of nurses in need during this outbreak. They are also offering mental help for all the front line workers that may need it during this crisis. They have a section for frequently asked questions and answers about the virus.

I found their response adequate during this pandemic I myself being a frontline worker think its amazing to know that there is help out there if it is needed. This pandemic can cause and is causing a lot of stress on healthcare workers. Our world has completely changed in just a few months. Its great to know that there are resources out there that are being offered if we need them.

Post a detailed description of your experience of working with a nurse leader. Include the following aspects in your description.

• Of the leadership theories discussed this week, which one did this nurse leader subscribe to? Why?
• How has your experience been with the nurse leader? Provide a description of your interactions with him or her?

Throughout my career, I’ve been extremely fortunate to work with exemplary nurse leaders. One that comes to mind would be my nurse educator when I first began working in the OR, Sarah. She was always focused on patient safety and emphasized the importance of it above all else. I felt her style of leadership is most closely identified with relational leadership theories. In particular, I would describe her as a transactional leader. This is further explored in our readings:

The transactional leader focuses on the goals of the organization, with a directive style establishing expectations for team members and motivating with rewards. With this type of leadership, both the leader and the team member gain something from the interactions, although theirs is not necessarily a shared vision. The leader is focused on getting the job done, and the team member is motivated by the reward earned. (Murray, 2017, p.48)

I found my experience with Sarah to be profound since it helped to layout a foundation for my nursing career. We both had similar goals and I felt I could trust her with any concerns I had. I hope to channel her skills and competence one day as a leader myself.
