Step 1 Download the Preceptor Manual

, review it to understand the roles of your preceptor and yourself. The preceptor must be a baccalaureate prepared nurse. The preceptor will assist you in the assessment of need for a quality improvement measure (QIM). Complete the Student Preceptor Agreement, when you have received contact information on your preceptor. Your preceptor and interviewee must be different people

Identify a healthcare center, hospital, or nursing institute of higher education that is the workplace of your selected nurse leader interviewee and write a two- to three-page (one page should consist of the Scalar diagram) essay on the main components listed.

History of Hospital/Healthcare Organization/School of Nursing’s Organizational Structure

Profit/nonprofit, number of beds, accreditation, specialties, governing bodies
Mission statement/vision/value statements
Clinical services/specialties

Legal and Regulatory Compliance of the Organization

Policy compliance standards as it pertains to HIPPA

Scalar Chain Diagram of Healthcare Administration

Include a Scalar chain diagram of the healthcare administration team as the final page of your essay. Include in the organization’s hierarchy, the facility President and CEO, the Chief Nursing Officer, and continue down the line. If a diagram is not available on the organization’s website, or the interviewee cannot provide it, you will have to design one.

Step 2 Identify an RN administrator to be interviewed.
Contact a healthcare administrator who works for the healthcare center, hospital, or nursing institute of higher education (BSN minimum) being researched. Contact this nurse administrator/leader to schedule an interview as soon as possible. Provide the contact information and credentials of this interviewee to your course instructor.

Step 3 Identify a preceptor.
Contact your preceptor during week 1 to make your introductions and to give an overview of the direction that you would like to take for your project. Upload the signed preceptor agreement form to Blackboard as a single PDF file.

Step 4 Save and submit your assignment.
When you have completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself in an easily accessible place and submit a copy to your instructor.
