This written assignment is designed to help you think critically about the
state government and enhance your skills at evaluating images as required under
Mountain View College’s guidelines for core learning objectives. This paper will
consist of six REQUIRED written components. Each of these parts should be at
least one-half page in length. In addition, you can (but are not required to) have an
introduction and a conclusion. This means that the body of the paper should be 3-5
pages in length. If the paper is shorter than 3 pages or longer than 5

Content Requirements
1. Describe what the graphs look like visually. Pretend that the reader is not able
to see the graphs and give as much detail as possible. (VC 1)
2. What information are the graphs presenting? What are the graphs telling you
about? Take the information that is presented visually and communicate it to the
reader in written form. (VC 2)

versus the government of Massachusetts? How would the residents of each of the

Massachusetts. How are the states similar in how they spend money and how are
the states different? How would you expect life to be different in Massachusetts
compared to Texas based on how the governments spend their money? Base your
arguments on the multiple sources provided and not your own “guess.” (CT 1 and

context of your paper. If you’re not sure about the meaning of
government related terms, your textbook can be a good guide.
C. Follow the structure and order of the paper as listed in this assignment.
D. Many parts of your paper require information from outside sources
(meaning – “not you”). Make sure that you give proper credit to where
you obtained the information, and to put the information in quotes if it is
an exact quote. I do not care how you cite your sources, but you MUST
cite your sources.
E. Use proper grammar. Follow standard rules for writing.

Deadlines
A hard copy of the paper MUST be turned in DURING CLASS on April
18th. By Midnight of April 18th you must also turn in an online copy on eCampus.
In addition, before you turn in the paper, you must take it to be reviewed at the
Writing Center (located in room W114). You must discuss your paper with the
instructors at the writing center. Please keep the paperwork associated with the
meeting and staple it to the end of your paper. This paperwork MUST INCLUDE
your name, the tutor’s name, what was discussed, the date that you met, and it must
be checked that you “REVISED” your paper. You must meet with a tutor at the
writing center before April 7th for full credit OR before April 14th for half credit.
If you wait until the last day to go to the writing center, they most likely will not
have time to meet with you and you will not receive ANY credit. You must go the
writing center and make an appointment ahead of time. You CANNOT just show
up. I recommend you make an appointment as early as possible. If all
appointments are full, you will not get credit.
