Mexico’s power distance – High power distance category Essay read the attachment and just write a general 5 paragraph essay on power distance Mexico’s power distance score is 81. That score places it in the high powerdistance category. The world average on this dimension is 59.31, with a standard
deviation of 21.25. The fact that Mexico’s score is a bit more than one standard
deviation away from the world average means that Mexico has a higher power
distance than roughly 68% of countries across the globe. So what does that
mean? It means that in comparison to about two-thirds of the world, the cultural
norm in Mexico is to accept an unequal distribution of power. In particular, it
means that there is a belief that it is okay for a certain few to hold great amounts
of power. As you can see in the Comparison of Power Distance for Mexico to
Selected Regions of the World table much more resembles that of Central and
South America than it does North America. That fact gives some credence to the
idea of their being a true Latin America beyond simply a label as there is
somewhat of a shared viewpoint with regards to power.

So what does this mean for a global leader? It means that when interacting with
Mexican leaders one can expect there to be a high tolerance for discrepancy
between the “haves” and the “have nots,” even among those in the “have not”
section of society. Remember though, that this is culturally acceptable to
Mexicans, and they might be surprised if you were to express more egalitarian
values. One may also expect to interact only with the “haves.”

of the average category compared to the rest of the world, which has an average
score of 67.64 with a standard deviation of 22.99. Mexico’s score is just a few

line with Central and South America than with the rest of North America, again
fitting it into Latin American culture. So what does that mean for a global leader
to think about when working with Mexico? As Mexico falls toward the high end of
the average range for avoiding uncertainty, it means that for the most part
Mexicans have a slightly higher than normal preference for avoiding ambiguous
situations. So rules and laws are given a bit more credence here than in a lot of
places in the world. Along those lines, there is a slightly stronger than average
belief that there is one way of doing things—a “right way” so to speak.
