1ST ASSIGNMENT…
Transformation of Society
REQUIERES MINMIUN OF TWO (2) SOURCES
? 4 Secondary
? 2 Primary, scholarly
Directions:
This assignment is to investigate the impact businesses or large
corporations had on society, through the exchange of shifting economic
operations. This transformation during the 1940-1960s experienced new
divisions of labor in the American workforce that included, women,
minorities, labor child welfare laws, technology, computers, foreign and
immigration work force, increased education, skilled and trade
regulations, and several new inventions and a growing entrepreneurship.
After World War II the American society grew and developed at a rapid
rate based on the steady increased of GNP. As businesses shifted into a
more robust economy, the era of the Consumer Age was at the forefront
of most families. Technology was leading businesses along with
government regulations into new systems of operations for the complex
layer American society to manage all these changes.
Consider your theme based on how these changes effective the outcomes
and the trade-off that came with a shifting society. Some areas to brainstorm about:
? Gender, women in the workforce
? Minorities, African-Americas, Hispanic, Asian, Immigrants
(post WWII)
? New Regulations, Child Labor Laws, Mining, Textile, Food
services, factories
? Propaganda, advertising, marketing, import/export trade of
goods & services
? Community infrastructure, suburban housing
? Consumer goods, Malls, Restaurant, Franchise, Textile Icon
and labeling (Disney…)
? Transportation, Airports, Automobiles, Interstate Highway
system
? Medical, surgical techniques, pharmaceutical, building R&D
? Education, community and technical colleges, publication of
books, specialized degrees
? Entertainment, TV, music, transistors, sports, clothing &
equipment
? Computers, business machine, lasers,
? Animals, protections and service
You are not limited to these areas, rather this is the first stepping stone for
your exploration of a theme.
BE MINDFUL, this is not about a person or a necessarily a single
business or industry or corporation, rather it’s about a transformation
was experienced because of a shift in businesses operations.
Your research paper should include the following paragraphs:
Introduction of the selected theme and its importance to the era
Body with at least 3-4 paragraphs defining the importance of their
industry and the conditions working as a laborer Provide clear clarity and
a flow of organizational importance
Conclusion of at least 2 paragraphs discussing the explanation of the
theme and analysis of what the outcomes
o QUOTES are always helpful, but Quotes do not count towards
your required word count.
? If you must choose to have a quote ONLY ONE
QUOTE PER ASSIGNMENT is acceptable, and make
that decision wisely with a single sentence, not a
paragraph. Deduction will be applied to more. The reason
for this is based on my wanting to read your own
composition of the researched topic for this assigned
project for evaluation. In addition, any quote MUST be
properly cited.
Images, charts and other pictures are helpful, but do not replace the
required word count for this paper
Sources that are acceptable and good to explore for this assignment can be
found in your Campus library of the following: Proquest, Ebsco, Credo, Jstor and
History Resources. See the Writing Center and the library reference section that
addresses history sources for additional help. * Hint, not the night before.
Avoid the following: Wikipedia, Crystallites, .com web sites, blogs and other
sources that are too general and not creditable reference sources.
Maps, charts, images, visual artifacts, political cartoons, persons and other data
that is directly related to your topic are welcomed and acceptable, however
remember these additions do not replace your required word count for this
assignment, rather they should enhance and aid support to the overall project.
Finally, when selecting your topic, let this be an experience in learning something
new. Your investigative research of sources should interface to the greater history.
Moreover, the task of this assignment, should have some fun in it for you.
