Worlds Entangled. Explain some of the economic, political, and social impacts of global commerce in the era of 1600-1750. Give specific examples from three different parts of the world. Do you see commerce creating prosperty and stability, or do you see the contact creating upheaval?

Slave Trade. Describe the development of the slave trade in the era from 1600-1750. Who was promoting the slave trade? How did it relate to the economic systems of the era? Discuss the impact you see in Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

Islamic Heartland. Describe the major Islamic societies of the era from the 1500s to 1700s. What did the Ottomans have in common with the Safavids and the Mughal Empire? What key differences do you see? Can you see how these societies helped shape the world we live in today?

China and Japan. What is going on with China in the 1600s and 1700s? Do you see Japan going on a similar course or on a very different course?

Europe. Explain three major changes you see in Europe in the era from 1600-1850. In what ways do you see Europe influencing the rest of the world? In what ways do you see the rest of the world influencing Europe?

Splendor and Power! Explain some of the ways you see monarchs, or other powerful people, showing off their wealth and power in the era from 1500-1780. Compare specific examples in at least three different societies.

Cultural Identity. What does it mean to be modern? Explore this question in relation to three different societies in the era from 1500-1780.

Reordering the World. Explain how the American Revolution of 1776-1783 is similar to other political and social movements in the era from 1750-1850. Give specific examples from three other societies (besides the US). What broader changes in the world do you see contributing to these movements?
