2. Read and reread Swales’ The Concept of a Discourse Community. What you will need to do is choose a community and focus on how language governs that community. (The community I want is the Chinese group in US) The first 2 parts of Swales’ essay attempts to define that concept. (attached)

3. The body of the essay should be a rhetorical analysis of 2 to 3 documents that are part of the discourse community, a web site, a blog, a newsletter, or articles. SOAPS, ethos, pathos, logos, will help you say something about these texts.
