Hello to all and happy last discussion. Let me start by saying that I wish each and every one of you all the very best in all future endeavors!
My definition of wellness has indeed been changed throughout this course. I always just thought wellness was your physical health but I have learned that it encompasses so much more. Wellness can be defined as “an integrated method of functioning which is oriented toward maximizing the potential of which the individual is capable” (Kirkland, 2014). Through analyzing wellness through the four lenses, I have gained a deeper perspective into what exactly wellness is, and how we can grow not only as individuals, but as a society through that knowledge. Through the history lens, we can look at the past, what did and did not work, and grow from that and continue to improve. Through the social science lens, we can get a better understanding of how society impacts all that we know when it comes to wellness. The natural and applied sciences gives a better physical understanding, through things like medications and STEM projects. Lastly, through the humanities lens, we can get a more profound understanding on how culture and the arts play into wellness. As far as wellness in the future, I think it all depends on the individual, but we are making strides every day in order to better overall wellness. I will use the knowledge I have gained from this course both professionally and personally. I believe the information from this course will be very beneficial in the social work field.
Again, I wish all of you the very best! It has been a pleasure.
