Consider the following statement: “In preparing for the Cherokee removal, state and federal officials were motivated solely by desire to seize the natives’ land.” In your post, consider the following:

  • Does this statement present the full picture? Revise this statement to present a more complex explanation of the motivations that drove state and federal officials (and the white citizens of Georgia) during the years immediately preceding the Cherokee removal. Explain the choices you made in your revision.
  • Next, consider how you can take a similar approach to your own topic in order to more fully understand the historical complexity. What other viewpoints would you want to further explore in order to more fully understand your topic?

In response to your peers, share any preconceived notions you may have about their topic. Lastly, consider how further exploration of the viewpoints around their topic would potentially change the lens through which they currently view the event.

The statement does not fully paint the picture of the events that led up to the removal of the Cherokees. The reason for the Cherokee Removal was not their land. It was a major factor but over time there became hate by each group towards each other that pushed state and federal officials to remove the Cherokees. The Georgians did not want the Cherokees there and started giving false statements of them acting violently. They also wanted the land they were using for cotton.

In my topic of Quebec Immigration, I can provide a viewpoint from both people who migrated from Quebec and those living in New England when they migrated that way I am presenting an overview of both sides instead of just assuming one side was right.

The statement, “In preparing for the Cherokee removal, state and federal officials were motivated solely by desire to seize the natives’ land.” does not represent the full picture. This does show a small pice of the puzzle however I think the statement would be more accurate if it was.
In preparing for the removal of the Cherokee, local motivations from state and also federal officials came from not understanding the Natives Culture and fear of what they may do to their own culture. This was also motivated by land, due to wanting to utilize its resources Lack of knowledge and communication created confusion and flaws that the Georgia people saw as fear and wanted to most likely make the first move, to prevent an uproar and takeover from the Cherokee people.

In my own topic of “Personal Computing” I would like to explore the idea’s of the creators themselves and what their reasons were in creating some of the personal computers. During the late 70s and early 80s the race to create the perfect personal computer was an intense race, and at times cutthroat. This lead to Many smaller business to go out of business or many people jumped ship to join larger name companies with more resources. In doing this I would ask the question; If a few of these larger named companies decided not to get into the computer business, would we have the 2019 standard idea of what a Personal Computer is?
