Company Policy & Procedures

Description

You will be creating a portion of a fictitious company’s Policies and Procedures.  There will be several parts to the overall assignment outlined below.  Each part will focus around an individual chapter from the book.  Below are some key questions you may want to think about when developing your company’s policies and procedures.  This is not an all-inclusive list, you may add/delete as necessary or desired.               Chapter 7 What will be your “promote from within” policy and how will that affect any external search for new employees? What methods will you employ to recruit internally/externally? Do the methods change depending on the job type? What pre-screening methods will you employ? Will those screening methods differ per job type?  How will each of those methods be conducted? What, if any, type of training or development will be offered/required of your employees? How do those efforts affect recruitment and/or performance measurements?             Chapter 8 What will be your company’s stance on workforce diversity (age, gender, ethnicity, disability etc)? How will your efforts outlined in Chapter 7’s P&P outline impact those efforts and desires?             Chapter 9 How will your employees be compensated? Salary or hourly?  Is that job dependent? What kind of benefits program will be offered? Are those benefits job dependent? What kind of criteria will be used internally to determine any promotion, bonus or pay-raise?             Chapter 10 How will you perform job performance appraisals? On what schedule will those assessments be done? Who will be conducting those appraisals? What categories or questions will be assessed in the appraisal?  How do those different questions get “weighted” in the overall assessment? How will these assessments of employees impact the company’s diversity efforts? For each of these sections you should present your P&P in paragraph form with section headings/titles as appropriate.  Format it as if an employee (or prospective employee) were to look at it for the first time.  If you need to, look at an existing company’s P&P as an example to follow. For any document that would be used in any of these processes, provide it at the end of your document as a page of its own.  For instance, your pre-screening requires some kind of skill assessment.  Provide the assessment of what skill and what level achieved was attained by the potential employee.  If there are multiple pre-screening “check-boxes” that need to be complete, provide that check list with whatever pass/fail/grade level achieved for the candidate.  As an additional example, if you provide bonuses for employees provide a document that would show what level of achievement would qualify for what level of bonus on whatever schedule(or job type) you define in your P&P. In the end I am not looking for a “right” answer as to how your fictitious company will operate.  What I am going to be looking for is your thoughtfulness throughout the creation of this P&P.  To make sure that each element supports the other(s).  A question I will ask of myself when reading your document may be “Did you support your policy of diversity through your hiring, promotion, compensation and appraisal efforts?”  Another point to consider would be to look at your P&P through the eyes of an employee?  Did you find inconsistencies or vagueness in the policies?  Was there something left out of the procedures that would be wanted/desired by employees?  If an employee “fails” a job performance appraisal for instance, is it an immediate firing offense or is there remediation or some other method the employee could petition for a new assessment/counter any repercussions levied?
