Value is 35% of your final grade.

▪ A History of You – (25 points)
Essential information/documentation here would include:
o A summary that highlights your educational accomplishments, both formal and informal; who are your mentors/favorite ‘teachers’ and why? What have you learned from them?
o What is my history as a learner?
o Involvement and membership in any professional associations/groups;
o Publications, conference papers/presentations/posters and;
o Any other additional information you may want to include that is specific to your profession and personal learning. A current resume is a required piece of information for this section.
o Your LinkedIn profile address.
▪ Statement of Tourism personal Philosophy/Perspective
(20 points).
This is a key component of the career portfolio and should be about one to two pages long. This statement will provide information about the values you have about your personal learning and how it relates to the Tourism & Travel industry. This autobiographical learning narrative describes significant events that influenced your life and learning, and it analyzes what was learned, how it was learned and how it is relevant to the Tourism learning goals you set for yourself.
▪ Summary of Work and Related Responsibilities – (15 points)
List all courses taken over the past three semesters, as well as ancillary activities such as sports, student council, Co-curricular Record activities and committee responsibilities, etc. Use this section to describe briefly what each course covered, such as some of the learning outcomes). You can also refer to volunteer activity and committee work you’ve done in the College.

▪ Supporting Documents to highlight education – (15 points)
Next to the statement of learning philosophy, this is probably the most important component of a career portfolio. Here, you would include the following items as separate documents:
o Descriptions of student learning and success (including assignment you consider innovative)
o A summary of any recent student/instructor feedback (formal and informal).
o A one/two-page reflection on your strengths, possible areas for improvement, and other key insights.
▪ Past/Current Professional Development Activities: – (10 points)
What have you already done that has helped to inform your learning and industry development? This includes any steps you have taken to evaluate and improve your learning, such as attending industry, workshops, professional conferences and presentations on Tourism, and participating in community of peers/practice.
▪ Professional Development Plan: – (15 points)
What are your hopes and aspirations as they relate to your career and life-long learning? In your response also include any action steps you believe are necessary to achieving these goals. Information here could include answers to the following:
o What courses would you like to take/teach/develop in the future?
o What College or Industry activities/committees/community of peers/practice would help to enhance your role as a travel professional?
o What College or Industry activities/committees/community of peers/practice would you like to be involved in?
o Are you interested in writing articles on tourism & travel or industry specific articles, doing applied research)?
o What commitment will you make to yourself to continually renew, energize and maintain excellence in your ongoing learning? The emphasis here is not just to learn more, but also to learn and work differently.
