The status of nations health is defined by the infant mortality rate. Infant mortality rates for the babies of mothers in the adolescent age bracket is the highest while for mothers that fall within age bracket of 20 to 30 years is the lowest. Generally, infant mortality rate is inversely related to the maternal education levels (Global Health Council, n.d). The higher the maternal education level, the lower is the infant mortality rate.

To decrease the infant and mortality rate it is imperative to implement measures that target the adolescent. This category is very vulnerable for their babies have the highest number of infant mortality rate. One of the ways in which infant mortality can be reduced is to address the issue of poverty and inequity that exists in the adolescent people. Poverty affects their rights to rights to education for it forces them to drop out from school and pushes them into labour market or early marriages (UNICEF, n.d). To break the cycle of poverty and missed opportunities for adolescent, there is need for implementation of child-sensitive protection. This gives support to children from poor families through meeting their basic needs.
The second way is investing in education and training. Education has the effect of improving the potential of individual earnings and boosting economic growth. In addition it promotes gender equality and improves maternal health (UNICEF, n.d).
The third way is creating a supportive environment for the rights of both a child and adolescents. Supportive environment is necessary for policies and laws that promote adolescent rights. It is important for governments to use legal system to eliminate barriers that prevent access to essential services and protection.
Conclusion
The adolescents are the most vulnerable people for their group has the highest mortality rates. There are many which ways in which the mortality rates can be reduced, these include addressing the issue of poverty and inequity, investing in education and training and creating supportive environment for child and adolescents rights.
