The task is covered by two assignments. Assignment 2 is a teaching package that you develop that communicates and informs about an aspect of cultural diversity. Assignment 1 is your preparation for Assignment 2, presented as an annotated bibliography for the topic that you have chosen for the teaching package.
Choose one of the following topics for the assignment:
• The relationship between acculturation and psychological well-being
• The influence of cultural background on parenting beliefs and/or practices
• The role of culture in treatment for psychological disorder(s)
• The impact of racism and discrimination on psychological and/or physical health
Please note that these are broad topics. You should choose to focus on a more specific area within these topics for your teaching package. For example, if you chose the role of culture in treatment for psychological disorder(s), one possible teaching package would be a training manual for nursing staff working in mental health settings.
Assignment 1 – Annotated Bibliography 30%
Identify the topic for your teaching package and present a critical annotated bibliography on this topic. This means an organized list of sources (e.g., journal articles, book chapters) relevant to your topic. The list should contain bibliographic details, as well as an evaluative annotation for each source. This means a descriptive and critical comment about each source (for example, in terms of its scope, content and an evaluation of its usefulness or relevance for your teaching package). Each annotation should be no more than 150 words.
Your bibliography should be comprehensive (at least 12-15 sources) and the majority of the sources should be journal articles. Bibliographic details should be presented according to the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the APA (2010). Undergraduate texts are not appropriate sources at this level. The list should be in alphabetical order.
Think of this assignment as your research for Assignment 2. To do this you need to:
• complete a literature search on your topic, using a database such as PsycInfo;
• compile relevant sources;
• read the sources and take notes;
• write up your notes as annotations
• put the annotations together in alphabetical order, with reference details.

Marking Criteria for Assignment 1
The Annotated Bibliography will be assessed according to the following key features:
1. Overall Comprehensiveness and Relevance e.g., does it cover the key references for this topic? How extensive is the bibliography? Does it cover all relevant references on this topic and not include irrelevant references?
2. Quality of Annotations a. Accuracy e.g., do the annotations represent the sources accurately? b. Critical evaluation e.g., is there evidence of critical evaluation of the sources?
3. Presentation and Format Does the bibliography conform to APA style conventions as described in the 6th edition? Are the references in alphabetical order?
4. Expression Are the annotations written clearly and concisely?
The annotated bibliography will be marked out of 30. The following marks and grades will be awarded: Higher Distinction (HD): 24 + Pass (C): 15-17.5 Distinction (D): 21-23.5 Fail (N): Below 15 Credit (CR): 18-20.5
