There are multiple types of statistical analyses. Each of them are the explanation of a certain
part of an experiment. Statistical analyses that could be used with designs involving two or
more groups could be differences and associative. An example of differences could be
looking at two groups and deciding if the two groups are the same or figuring out the
differences, like a certain group of college males to another group of college males from a
different college. An example of associative is looking at all the variables that are involved
and determining if they are related in a certain way. The factors that should be used to
analyze the data could the variables that are being researched. It would be important to
understand how each affect the outcome of the research. The purpose of using a control
group is to how the variables that are being associated affect the outcome of the research.
Variables are used to test certain ideas or hypothesis. We use a control group that does not
engage in any aerobic activity and a high aerobic activity group that engages in 50 minutes
per day of aerobic activity—a simple two-group design. Assume, however, that when using
this design, we find that both those in the control group and those in the experimental group
have high levels of anxiety at the end of the study—not what we expected to find (Jackson,
2017).

An ANOVA test is a way to find out if survey or experiment results are significant. In other
words, they help you to figure out if you need to reject the null hypothesis or accept the
alternate hypothesis. Groups or levels are different groups within the same independent
variable. A one-way ANOVA occurs when you have one independent variable affecting a
dependent variable. With a two-way ANOVA, there are two independents. Use a two-way
ANOVA when you have one measurement variable (quantitative variable) and two nominal
variables. Basically, if the experiment has a quantitative outcome with two categorical
explanatory variables, a two-way ANOVA is appropriate.
According to Jackson (2017), using more than two groups in an experiment also allows
researchers to determine whether each treatment is effective than no treatment (the control
group). For example, a participant has volunteered for a study to determine the effectiveness
of a new headache drug. One group is given the actual drug and the other group is given a
placebo. This is a simple two-group design. A scientific control group is an essential part of
many research designs, allowing researchers to minimize the effect of all variables except
the independent variable. The control group, receiving no intervention, is used as a baseline
to compare groups and assess the effect of that intervention. Control groups allow for
meaningful comparisons to be drawn. Placebos are often utilized in medical research to help
doctors and scientists discover and better understand the physiological and psychological
effects of new medications (Cherry, 2020).
