Topic:
The act of storytelling in the dialogue of The Piano Lesson is an important way that August
Wilson transfers information to the audience without having to use narration or soliloquy[1]. In
the play, different characters relate many stories about distant past, recent past, and present
events. 1) Select one story that is told during the course of the play and develop an argument
for how that story is significant to the way Wilson finally resolves the Charles family conflict in
Act II, Scene 5 of the play. Make sure to cite evidence from the play in the form of direct quotes
in order to support your argument.
