Choose a topic related to mental health or ATOD to research for flyer assignment
Gather relevant facts and information on your chosen topic, such as:
o Important statistics
o Signs
o Symptoms
o Key attention grabbing facts (to draw attention to your flyer)
The directions below will help you create the template for the flyer.
Once the template has been created, you will be able to edit the document, in order to enter the information that
you gathered in your research.
Please remember before submitting the assignment to have the correct file name per HSA guidelines.
When you open Microsoft Word, go to
the file tab and click on New
Choose the Seasonal Event Flyer
template. If you do not see this right
away, you can search for it as well.
When you click on the
Seasonal Event Flyer, it
should bring up a screen
similar to this one; then
click on Create. This will
bring up a new document
creating your flyer
template
In order to place a new picture,
click on the Insert tab in Microsoft
Word
Click on Online
Pictures – this will
open a search box
as seen below
You can click in the Bing Search
box to type out what kind of image
you are searching for, such as,
mental health clip art or binge
drinking clip art, etc. Once you
type out your search criteria then
click enter.
When you find an image that you
like, click on it and then the insert
box will highlight
In order to insert the
picture into your flyer
template click on insert
and it will auto insert
for you
Remember to look at the license
for the picture to ensure that the
picture is “free” for you to use.

information
Once you have clicked on
the insert tab, the picture
will auto insert into the
document. You may have
to adjust the size of the
picture based on
preferences.
Please make sure to
use citations for all
sources

title of the flyer –
make sure that it is
something eye
catching but relevant
to the topic
This area will
be used to put
your research
information
into the flyer.
Do not simply cut and paste information from a
source and remember to cite.
Remember to go to File, Save As in order to
save the flyer with the correct file name per
standard HSA guidelines;

Once the flyer has been saved make sure to post it in the Community Awareness Discussion forum before 11:59
p.m. Thursday, EST; as well as upload it to the Community Awareness Dropbox. Remember to also respond to
another student’s discussion posting before 11:59 p.m. Sunday, EST.
