Your paper must have a clear structure and must include:

  • Cover page
  • Abstract (no more than 150 words in a single paragraph)
  • Table of contents (Table of tables/figures if necessary)
  • A subsection for each of the five questions of the assessment – no more than 4500 words in total
  • References (or Bibliography) – at Master level you must use in-text citations to support your arguments and any work cited must appear in the References list at the end of the work

Final Assessment – 4,500 words

For all questions below, “an organisation of your choice” ideally means “your organisation”, an organisation you are currently working with/for, or have done so in the recent past. This will allow you to develop a much more critical analysis of internal processes and characteristics of the organisation. You are specifically asked NOT to discuss Apple, Google, Amazon, Zara, Walmart, etc., unless you work there.

Make sure to use citations for every sections.

Questions:

  1. Conduct a literature review that critically discusses the concepts of

    a. Information Governance
    b. Information Security

and their importance in information management. Find and discuss relevant literature (peer-reviewed literature is preferred, such as journal articles, conference articles, with books, whitepapers, practitioner literature, and blog articles having a little less weight).

Weight: 20% of the final mark

Hint / Must-to-pass: This question’s aim is to review existing literature on IG and IS. You need to source definitions of IG, compare and contrast them. You need to demonstrate good effort in independent research. There needs to be evidence of critical thinking. Critical thinking means not only presenting the sources, but also discussing their shortcomings, limitations, applicability, ongoing relevance etc. The ways in which they fit in the bigger picture and with respect to each other.

  2. After reading the Procter and Gamble case study, critically discuss the role and responsibilities of senior leadership in information governance in the context of Procter and Gamble

Weight: 15% of the final mark

Hint / Must-to-pass: This question’s context is “information governance” (IG) in P&G. It is helpful here to have a reminder of the retained definition of IG and the critical elements that must be present. Based on the IG definition you can then have structured your analysis of the role of senior leadership around processes, controls, measurements, and policies – and more clearly identified the ones which were visible in the case study. Better use of theoretical frameworks (such as “five rights”, CIA, etc.) to support the analysis of the roles and responsibilities of senior leadership will be good.  as will have the “one truth” for decision making.

  3. In an organisation of your choice, perform a critical analysis of their use of information systems and information technology (including cloud services and social media) and how this impacts on staff development, effective flows of communication, and decision making in the organisation

Weight: 20% of the final mark

Hint / Must-to-pass: Use of theoretical frameworks for analysis will help you move from descriptive to analytical – this will also set-up the ground for stronger recommendations. We are seeking an analysis of inner-facing and outer-facing social media; of corporate infrastructure, including cloud services in use, their type, advantages and disadvantages for the organisation; operations management; data collection and use for adding added value to the organisation’s operations all considered to a high level. Here a much more explicit structure identifying the impact on “staff development, effective flows of communication, and decision making in the organisation” should be present, making it absolutely clear that you address the brief fully.

  4. Building on your analysis from question #3, critically evaluate possible improvements to the organisation’s use of information systems with emphasis on staff development in line with organisational goals, effective flows of communication, and decision making in the organisation

Weight: 15% of the final mark

Hint / Must-to-pass: You must use sources of best practice to reinforce and support the improvements. They have to be based on something, coming from a source of solid and sound research. Otherwise, they are just comments and opinions.

  5. Critically analyse the importance of security in information management in your organisation in particular

Weight: 15% of the final mark

Hint / Must-to-pass: We are seeking a discussion of the risk landscape around information management in general and in the chosen organisation; types of risks (internal, external, malicious, unintended, natural disasters) and possible impact (operation, legal, financial) and mitigation all Fully supported by existing literature and evidence of a logically developed conceptual framework.

The remaining 15% of the final mark will be dependent on the quality of Harvard referencing and bibliography, as well as the general presentation of your paper.
