1) Begin by choosing a specific TEDTalk to work with for this assignment from the TEDTalks website, found here: https://www.ted.com/talks. Choose a TEDTalk from 2020. In your search for a talk, consider your interests, hobbies, other classes, and topics you want to learn more about. Please choose a TEDTAlk given primarily in English; however, you may choose a video that discusses linguistics or other languages, if you like. 2) Once you have decided on your topic and read through the articles, you can start to build your analysis. For this analysis, I suggest focusing on the rhetorical situation (remember GRAPE): Genre Rhetor Audience Purpose Exigence You should also think about the rhetorical strategies the writers used: Ethos Pathos Logos 3) In a 750-1000 word paper, explain each rhetorical choice for your TEDTalk, give descriptions or examples, and explain why the speaker made that particular choice. Your thesis for this paper, however, shouldn’t focus on whether you like the talk or not but rather how the speaker’s choices reflect their rhetorical situation. Practice citing your TEDTalk correctly in MLA format, and organize your analysis to emphasize each of the rhetorical choices your speaker made and how they reflect the rhetorical situation.
