Description
Writing Task – Coming of Age, Personal Growth Core Question: Who is Titus, what is his message, and how do we know? As we’ve been discussing, Titus gradually comes to be a very unsympathetic character, and we also see that he seems to be wrestling with a lot of emotional baggage that has a lot to do with his drive to tell his story…which is really Violet’s story, and is meant to show us something important about the world in which the novel takes place. This prompt asks you to take a step back from the story and make some informed inferences about his motives, about occasion and purpose. What evidence is there in the book to help us explain the larger context of the story? In other words, what conclusions can we draw about who Titus becomes later on, when he is telling us this story? How much later do we think it is? Why? What is his larger point? How do we know? What lessons or understandings should we take away from reading Feed?
