DOMA/Prop 8 and the acceptance of homosexuals by society
Students are required to write a research proposal by the end of the semester. The research proposal topic will be chosen by the student, and it must be related to an issue of law and social control. Students are encouraged to review the assigned texts and articles to identify potential topics.
The purpose of the research proposal is to demonstrate the ability to identify and synthesize academic research into a written product. The proposal must include a minimum of 20 peer-reviewed journal articles. You are not allowed to use websites as sources without receiving permission in advance. The research proposal must be formatted according to APA guidelines.
The proposal will be structured in three primary sections: Introduction, Literature Review, and Methods. Criteria that I will be looking for in each section are identified below. Students may identify secondary data sources to be used in their research proposals or may propose original data collection. The primary purpose of the methods section is for students to identify potential sources of data, real or created, which could be used to aIDress their topic. Note, no data analysis is required as part of this research proposal.
Again, you get to choose the topic for the research proposal, so pick something that interests you. Just be sure that it is related to the topics for the course, law and social control.
The research proposal must be between 13 and 15 pages in length (not including your title page, reference page(s), or appendices). Proposals exceeding the page requirements will not be accepted.
