Structural and functional changes in pancreas when Type 2 Diabetes develops

Type II diabetes is a chronic disease where the blood sugar levels are high; it is caused by the faulting of the insulin making processes in the body. Insulin is required for glucose to move to cells for use as energy. When an individual has type 2 diabetes the cells do not respond to insulin correctly; this is referred to as insulin resistance. This means that the glucose will not enter into cells and hence accumulate in the blood (hyperglacemia) (Fonseca, 2009). This also leads to other serious complications in the body; such as harming organs and possible risks of heart ailments.
