Outline: This document should include a formal thesis statement and an outline for the presentation, including specific, supporting, or explanatory ideas and an indication of which sources will be used to support those ideas (see sample). Link the sources to the ideas by putting the author’s name in parentheses. Remember, you are drawing a comparison, so the novel must be explained before you can explain a comparison to our culture. Make sure you’ve included your revised Source List to reflect your Outline. A basic outline for presentation (now add your specifics!): I. Introduction/Thesis Statement II. Explanation of the main idea of Brave New World + your specific concern (with textual evidence – always quotes from novels!) III. Context for understanding the specific issue you are researching. This part should include the who, what, where, when, why, and how answers. Do not assume your readers “just know” about your issue. However, this is not to be an extended section on the history of the issue. IV. Analysis of the issue in our culture, including research studies, expert opinions, case histories, etc. covering all* sides of the issue. This should be the most extensive section of the paper. V. Conclusions connecting the comparison of Brave New World to our culture. Be sure to include: Your thesis statement, an outline of ideas with (sources to be used in parenthesis), and a Source List.
