Professional nurses need to be able to recognize the regulations and scope under which they practice and apply ethical principles in decision making. There are some ethical guidelines that have been laid down by the American Nurses Association, but this does not mean that in the course of their duty the nurses will not meet some ethical dilemmas. In this case study, the patient refuses to be put in the ventilator, and the implications of this are that the life of the patient is in danger. It is hard to determine if the will of the patient should be followed or a decision should be made for him.
