KWASHIORKOR AND GENETIC MODIFIED FOODS
This is an unhealthy condition caused by malnutrition from lack of proteins and amino acids in the diet despite a reasonable intact of calories. It is regular in babies and the young ones alike. Symptoms are commonly evidenced by edema or a swollen abdomen due to retention of fluids. Other key diagnosiss are skin pigmentation, hair discoloration, anorexia and stick like legs and hands with less mass of muscle. Children suffering from kwashiorkor have impaired immune systems thus, are easily infected due to inability to fight off diseases. It is a disease occurring in areas characterized by famine and poor food supply, unlike in other developing countries it is an unusual occurrence in the US and UK due to efficient and well balanced nutrition. This paper will discuss effects of this malnutrition defect and suggest possible solutions in light to the genetically modified foods (RR, 1955).
