Hypothesis testing in criminal justice research
Hypothesis testing has been in the study by Pearson et al to determine how behavioral and cognitive modifications in behavior can be used to reduce the element of recidivism among the criminals. The efficacy of the hypothesis testing in the study was there embeIDed on behavioral skills and advancement programs that could be used to change the lives of criminals who have found guilty of various offenses. the study employs the two facets of hypothesis testing which are alternative and null hypothesis, this is manifested in the two types of approaches which are to be used in solving the problem at hand, for instance behavioral and cognitive-behavioral treatment are the alternative methods of eliminating recidivism among the offenders while behavior modification which is achieved through incentives and motivational aspects satisfy the null provision of the test under study. The studies therefore satisfy the assertion that hypothesis testing can be effective in criminal justice research (McGuire, 2007).
