Health Information Technology Use in Healthcare Delivery
Health Information technology (HIT) has for a long time been hailed as critical in the streamlining of the US healthcare delivery by many players in the industry. Some of the components of healthcare system that are considered to be critical in prompt delivery of healthcare are computerized entry of details and electronic health records. The delivery of healthcare system is multifaceted with diverse players who need to be integrated and coordinated on one plane and on a single continuum (Buntin, Sachin and David 1216). As such, the large volume and number of transactions carried out, the fragmented pieces of information and other activities cannot be undertaken through paper based systems. Although the benefits of HIT are apparent and advantageous, the implementation of the system may be time and financially challenging. Thus, the rate of usage if HITs is low and limited and it has permeated administration and financial aspects of healthcare systems as opposed to clinical care delivery. However, the actual use in healthcare research is slowly getting on momentum, there is still much grounds to be covered and full benefits of HIT to be realized.
