Order Description
(1) Suppose a friend of yours who attends another university offers to give you a paper he wrote last semester on just the topic assigned in one of your classes. He assures you that he got an A on the paper (and never posted the paper on-line) and you have every reason to believe him. You find yourself inclined to accept the offer: you have many other papers and exams scheduled for just the week that paper is due. But you grit your teeth, resist temptation, and decline the offer because you think its the right thing to do, and you want to do whats right.
Now suppose determinism is true. In declining the offer, have you thus acted freely? What would DHolbach, Libet, and Frankfurt (in Freedom of the Will and the Concept of a Person?) say, and why? What is your own view of the matter? Give reasons.
