Topic: Applying for double major (Applied linguistics and TESOL)
Order Description
My major is Applies linguistics, I just want to double major with TESOL. In the motivation litter I should include many persuasive reasons to be admitted:
These as little background about me and my reasons, please feel free to reorganize them as it makes it academic. Also, please notice that this litter is going to be given to the department of linguistics in Southern Illinois University, and they are very strict about the grammar or any kind of mistakes, so please be very carful with that:
My personal reasons are:
I am so interested in English teaching methods, I am also interested in taking advantage form English teaching methods to apply them in Arabic teaching methods because I am Arabic teacher for non-Arabic speaker in King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
My master project is about an idea that I assumed that it is gong to improve Arabic grammar teaching in Saudi Arabia due to the weaknesses in Arabic grammar through Arabic students. I will examen this idea through an experiment among 40 Saudi college students in Saudi Arabia. As a result I wish to get benefit from double major courses to be more knowledgeable about teaching practicum and methods.
When I return back home, and since that my background is Arabic major and I got the opportunity to study my master in linguistics, That is gong to help me to recognize the major differences between Arabic and English grammar structure, and make the mission of teaching English grammar to Arabic speakers much easer. As a result, I will be teaching English grammar in English department in KSU as a part-time, beside my major job wish is an Arabic teacher for non-Arabic speakers.
I already have only tow courses left in searing semester of 2015 which are 1-Historical Linguistics, and 2-TESOL Practicum, because I have already registered in : 1- Professional Study of Linguistics 2-Second Language Acquisition 3-Methods and Materials for TESOL in this coming Fall semester of 2014.
Since I started to learn English grammar, I noticed the differences between English and Arabic. Compared to Arabic, English is far better in terms of the organization of its tenses. While Arabic only have three known tenses, English seemed to be well-organized in terms of the number of tenses and their usage. While the three tenses that Arabic has are flexible enough to the extent that they can be used to express the same things the English tenses express.
Fortunately enough I got accepted as Master student at Southern Illinois University which combines between linguistics and TESOL. I found this as a great opportunity to learn more about the English language through doubling major in linguistics and TESOL. I would also be able to learn more about the different teaching strategies through taking classes that are related to Teaching English Speakers of Other Language since that is what I will be doing after I am done with my studies here in the United States. After my PhD, I intend to work on reforming the grammatical rules of the Arabic language to meet the demands of the new age. This is going be my long-term goal. With the help from other friends who have expressed their interest in such a project, I am sure that I will be able to accomplish this goal
