Among other chronic illnesses, diabetic is one that needs daily management and responsibility. Children with such diagnosis need to have a strong support system to stay focus and be able to manage well with the illness. Many children have hard times dealing with diabetes and some even the brightest could not focus and as such with poor grades. As a school nurse and a part time home care nurse, the challenges we face on daily bases caring for this age groups are: ineffective therapeutic regimen, physiological injury due to acute complications, ineffective coping, adaptation to lifestyle and self-care, self-esteem, denial, mood swing and sometimes rebel.
