Tuberculosis
Basic Information on Tuberculosis and efforts in its control
Tuberculosis (TB) is a commonly identified as deadly lung disease though it also affects other body parts. In humans it is mainly caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is highly infectious with air as its chief mode of transmission. Infected people can spread it to others through coughing, sneezing or spitting. The symptoms identified with TB include chronic coughs accompanied by sputum which is blood stringed. Other symptoms include loss of weight in aIDition to a wide range of other symptoms as a result of infection on other body parts. Common methods of diagnosis are radiology (chest x-rays), blood tests, microscopic tests, tuberculin skin examinations as well as microbial culture test of the sputum and other bodily fluids. TB control and prevention has taken two concurrent approaches. This consists of identification (through testing) and treatment of infected persons. The other approach involves vaccinating children against TB since no vaccine has been identified for adult protection
