I don’t understand this History question and need help to study.

As the saying goes: “What goes up, must come down!” so too did the great Roman Empire collapse, but why it collapsed is a question that has sparked much debate over the past millennium. This week will analyze the “Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” and look to address the many theories surrounding the collapse of this civilization.

Read Chapter 6 pp. 160-172 as well as the selection from Edward Gibbon’s “Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, then answer the following question in 2 to 3 paragraphs in a MS Word .doc or PDF

Question:

1. Few historians would now agree the judgment of Edward Gibbon, who posited that Christianity destroyed the Roman Empire. But to what extent did Christianity alter the traditional values and infrastructure of the Roman state? Were these alterations inevitable?
