Prompt #1:

In the past weeks following the killing of Iranian Major General Qassim Suleimani there has been an escalation of tension between the U.S. and Iran. These events are part of a longer history of tensions between Iran and countries in the West. Following Samuel Huntington’s “clash of civilizations” argument the tension with Iran could be interpreted as evidence of a larger conflict between East and West. Do you agree? Explain your answer with reference to the global issues we have covered thus far in the course.

Directions:

Your paper should be 1000-1200 words or about 3-4 pages. Use Times New Roman font in size 12. Please pay careful attention to spelling, grammar and punctuation. Remember that citations are required for both paraphrasing and direct quotes from either the text or lecture. Feel free to cite other books and articles as needed. Include a full list of works cited at the back (APA, MLA or other citation standard). Please submit your paper on the course website by 5:00 pm on February 11th.
