It is very true that the Avian Flu can be very lethal. On the contrary, the virus can only be lethal incase an individual possesses household chickens and lives within a nation in which an outbreak has been reported recently. Thus, the flu does not represent an immediate health threat to Americans. This is because very few Americans get into direct contact with domestic fowls. It is also the belief of fellow scientists that only 160 individuals have been diagnosed with the disease since it was discovered to be a threat in 1997 (Callahan, 2009).
