You have an extremely thorough outline for your essay, yet it feels convoluted in
defending your thesis statement. I appreciate the amount you wish to cover but there
are so many “rabbit holes” for you to fall in, that it can derail the clarity of your
message.
I would suggest simplifying your project and keep asking yourself: How is what I’m
writing critical in understanding the overall thesis of “…despite the overall depiction of
their characters as thieves and robbers, they also speak volumes on social issues of
sexuality and crime on an even broader perspective?” This thesis statement could also
used a bit more clarity in (1) what social issues you’re addressing and (2) who’s
perspective your using for your critical analysis.

Bachelors’ degree in English, gives insight on the theme of crime and sexuality within Bonny
and Clyde. He explains how within the movie, crime and sex are a ticket to freedom, addressing
these controversial subjects in detail. He explains how crime is no longer immoral but has rather
been sexualized, making it a tool of rebellion and corruption. Together, crime and sex get used
by both Bonnie and Clyde as a ticket to escape. The article explores the different times these
social problems have been used as an asset in times of disparity.
Guinn, J. (2009). Go Down Together: The True Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde.
The authors take a different and unique approach in writing their book, giving
information on who Bonnie and Clyde were before the birth of the Barrow Gang. Creatively and
with excellent compositions, they usher their readers into the livelihood of Bonny and Clyde,
their early childhood and upbringing, giving information on their background. Progressively, one
cam already points out social issues of crime and sexuality, which pushed them to ganging up
and committing the offenses. Simon and Schuster inform on the life that the two adolescents ed
in a slum whose experience they describe ‘a hellhole.’ The secondary source largely contributes
to the themes of sexuality and crime, which are the focus of the research on social injustices
addressed in the film.

Toland, J. (1963). The Dillinger Days. Random House Publishers.
In the book published in 1963, Toland John finds his writing on historical aspects. The
book holds stories of various outlaws within the depression era, but then takes a focus on the
story of John Dillinger. One chapter, however, entirely focuses on the characters Bonnie and
Clyde, and Toland then makes a controversial remark that Clyde Barrow is a homosexual. In the
movie remake in 1967, his opinion highly influenced the character depiction of Clyde. The book
takes on a contradicting approach to sexuality, addressing a topic that is considered a sexual
issue even to date.
Leong, I., Sell, M., & Thomas, K. (1997). Mad Love, Mobile Homes, And Dysfunctional
Dicks On the road with Bonnie and Clyde. The road movie book, 70.
Collectively, the authors hit the nail on the head. As the title suggests, the book is
centered on dismembering the characters through thorough criticism, addressing problems
related to sexuality within them. It explains why the two never had sexual relations, giving a list
of reasons for each individual, and many of them are in line with societal problems on the same.
They attribute the lack of sexual encounters between the couple to health problems by the male
character, portraying how much sexuality is inclined to passively discriminate against gender.
Anthony, T., & Tranter, K. (2016). Car crimes and cultural imagination. In Oxford
Research Encyclopedia of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
The secondary source authored by Anthony and Tranter takes a more comprehensive
approach. Centered on addressing car crimes and the cultural context involved in it, they point
out directly to Bonnie and Clyde, borrowing from the behaviors of their gang. They establish a
common pattern linking sexuality to crime, especially in cars. In committing their kidnappings
and murders, the couple and the gang were largely aided by the vehicles which eased mobility.

Ironically, it was within the same vehicle that the couple got gunned down in. The depiction of
Clyde as the rogue with a cigar, leaning against stolen cars was the exact imagination of crimes
and cars, mixed with a dash of sex and violence.
