The mentality of such a person changes, the person sometimes looses hope and depending on the extent of his or her illness, self worth, self respect starts going down and when stigma creeps in, the ability of an individual to construct identity is lost entirely. The illness experience also brings up a very important development of the ill individual although this has not been studied extensively and clarification needs to be conducted. This is the development of the illness identity with the subsequent loss of self identity (Yanos, Roe and Lysaker 2010 p.74). All these happen because the illness experience affects the mentality and mental state of the individual.
