Description
1. RSV. 6-month-old female presents to the ED for 3 days of cough, congestion, rhinorrhea and decreased oral intake. She attends daycare and “every baby” is sick there per mother. She was born full term and has no medical history. She has not had surgery and immunizations are UTD. She typically drinks 4-6 ounces of Similac Advance every 4 hours and has been taking about 2 ounces every 6 hours. Mother has not been suctioning her nares as she is afraid. Mother is 16 years old and lives with her parents. Infant is admitted to the observation unit on maintenance IVF (D5 NS with 20 mEq KCL/L), Tylenol, Motrin, saline and suction. RSV noted to be positive, CXR without focal consolidation, CBC within normal limits for age. Vital signs: Wt: 8kg, Temp: 99.1, HR: 120, RR: 48, Spo2:94%.
