Reason is making sense of things by verifying facts and using logic. ” The principle of utility states that actions or behaviors are right in so far as they promote happiness or pleasure, wrong as they tend to produce unhappiness or pain (White, n.d.)” We use reason every day to make life decisions, the reason that is chosen will then produce or not produce utility. A good example of this would be the decision my daughter made to retire from gymnastics after 10 years. She had to verify facts and use logic to determine if gymnastics was promoting happiness for her. She came to the reason that it was not producing utility and therefore she retired.

Absolutely equality of opportunity exists. That is why we have the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or EEOC. It is to ensure equality and opportunities in the workplace. The EEOC is in place to enforce equal opportunity. Yes, there is still discrimination happening, but these individuals are protected and the EEOC will investigate the claims they receive. I do feel that it is sad that this agency was developed to protect individuals from discrimination. Why can’t we just treat everyone fairly without having laws or agencies? Wouldn’t that be a great world to live in?
