Topic: Quality Failure in Clinical Laboratory
Introduction
One of the most profound readings I have done on clinical laboratory is on turnaround time (TAT). According to Hawkins (2007), laboratory service signs are noticeable through TAT and as such, it is often used as a laboratory performance indicator. On the other hand, performance indication is usually associated with quality which has been defined as the capacity of results to match or be commensurate with the needs expectations of the patient. For one to achieve total success, Kisabeth (2001) is of the opinion that failure is an important prerequisite which leads to the perfection of quality objectives that are in tandem with clinical objectives of laboratories. Errors emanating from the laboratory have a known frequency of up to 0.6% in all tests conducted. This large margin of error is usually expected to have adverse effects on patient care since laboratory diagnosis plays a central and/or a vital role in healthcare of patients.
