Topic: Psychological research shows that eyewitness testimony is not always accurate; therefore it should not be used in the criminal justice system.
Introduction
Eye witness testimonies are often used as deciding factor in many criminal cases. Eyewitness testimonies are the accounts given in courtrooms describing the event of the crime under investigation. To do so witness are given a chance to give their points of view and involved in the identification of the culprit. The credibility of the process of eyewitness has been question by psychologist claiming that individual perception and memories are unreliable due to several reasons such as being altered, manipulated and biased. In other cases innocent suspect end up in jail due to misidentification which result to wrongful conviction. In this paper I will focus on the various variables that influence accuracy of an eye witness. This include estimator and system variables, estimator variables are those that influence witness identification and memory, system variables involves variables such as presentation and lineup type, instructions and administrators behavior.
