How to Write a Resume – Examples of What Not to Do

For this assignment you will create a Resume and a Cover letter.

1. Find a job advertisement on the internet or any other source. Preferably this would be a job that you might be interested in or would fit your skills and abilities.

2. Create a Resume. It may be either a Chronological Resume or a Functional Resume (see page 509 in your textbook.) Be sure to include the components listed in the appropriate pink box on page 509 in your textbook. Also be sure to look at the examples in your textbook.

You may use an existing Resume of your own but modify it to meet the requirements of this assignment and the standards described in Chapter 16.

3. Create a Cover Letter. Write this as if you were submitting your Resume and possibly even an application to the job you found in the advertisement. Be sure to include the components from the pink box on page 520 of your textbook. Also be sure to look at the examples in your textbook.

Be sure to use spell-check and proofread your documents. Nothing will get you into the “NO” stack at a potential employer faster than having typos and misspellings on your resume.

Submit both documents as Word documents or PDF files.
