Otitis media is an inflammation of the miIDle ear, it generally affects that area the tympanic membrane and the inner parts of the ear that includes the duct known as Eustachian tube. It is one of the common causes of earache in children who are aged between 2 moths all the way to 12 years and it is caused by a bacterium that affects the miIDle parts of the ear (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2004). It causes pain in the ear, cancers of any structure that shares nerve supply with the ear and shingles that can lead to herpes zoster oticus. The disease is not life threatening and usually heals on its own in 2-6 weeks (Kelley, et al, 2007).
