The debate revolving around its use has dominated most of the information technology forums in the year 2010 as its use has slowly been adopted on commercial scales. This uptake of Software as a Service has led to various studies that involve the use of Software as a Service. Forness (2010) in an analysis of the stages that disruptive innovation takes before it is finally accepted in the market asserts that the use of Software as a Service has reached its penultimate stage, the most disruptive stage of the innovation cycle where it threatens the existence of the traditional providers as it slowly eats into the market segment that was a preserve of the existing providers. This means that use of cloud computing is finally getting embraced by various consumers, a fact that may threaten the status quo of traditional ways of doing things.

This technology which appears to be a repeat of the founding computer technology where computers were controlled by the mainframe computers has utilized the same technology, this time, owning the software part and letting vendors to utilize the software from one end at the expense at a fee. This therefore means, a corporate outsources some core IT functions to a company that deals with this functions. This new development in the management of company data has been a source of variant views from supporters and from those who hold a contrary opinion. While one group has authoritatively asserted that the use of Software as a Service is the solution to varying company needs, some are of the idea that the security of information being held at a specific online store that specializes with data storage, analysis and execution cannot be guaranteed, others are of a contrasting opinion that companies that specialize with the role of providing cloud computing services have a way of securing data in such a manner that a stand alone company cannot have.
