Accepting the experience without judgment, paying attention to the sense, acknowledging the
breath, making a choice of whether you will respond or react to a situation is more of a therapy
and is called mindfulness. It’s an important activity as it can be used to heal a number of mental
illnesses. There are a number of theories that are connected to mindfulness. For this paper, I will
discuss two theories and compare them in a number of ways.
Play, laughter and humor are known to have a healing power. Humor, playfulness and laughter
connect with positive emotions which produces a smile. Laughter is contagious, which means a
happy person can induce it to the rest who surrounds them. For instance, if a person enters into a
working place with a smile, there is a higher probability that a number of them will react the
same way. Laughter takes away negative and bad feelings. In fact, smiling is connected to the
following facts. It makes people attractive to others and promotes the mood of the others.
Serotonin is released from the act of smiling and it acts as an anti-depressant. Laughter is also
characterized by exercise which involves the contraction of jaws and muscles surrounding the
eyes. In most cases, a “Duchenne smile” is characterized with this relaxation. However, even a
smile have a similar effect. It can be triggered by a number of things such as playing and humor.
It is, therefore, important to ensure that you engage yourself in such activities. In most cases,
grownups concentrate much on creating humor instead of playing. They normally think that
playing is for the kids alone. However, children are known to be happier than adults. Playing is
responsible for this. If people across all ages embraced playing, they would be as happy as the
young kids. Laughing, playing and humor is therefore important in our lives as they will provide
happiness which in turn acts as a healing to a number of problems.
Exercise is an important thing across the life span as well. Most people connects exercise with
physical health and forgets its importance in social-behavioral and psychological benefits. In

fact, failure to exercise is known to have contributed to 35% of chronic illnesses such as diabetes
and heart attacks. I don’t think a sick person can be happy in any way. A sick person is normally
subjected to pain and agony. This will affect their emotions which in return affect their
happiness. Their unhappiness will affect their psychological functioning and result to problems
such as stress and depression. For this reason, there exists a physical activity guidelines for
Americans. For people aged between 6 and 17 years old, a minimum of 60 minutes of physical
activity is recommended on a daily basis. In this 60 minutes, vigorous exercise, muscle
strengthening and bone strengthening activities should be included. This amounts to three days a
week. For adults aged between 18 and 64 years of age, a minimum of 150 minutes should be
spared for moderate exercise-intensity exercise. It can also be substituted by a 75 minute spell of
vigorous- intensity aerobic physical activity for a week. This should be done in ten minutes
spells which are evenly distributed across the week. These activities should include muscle
strengthening activities and avoid bone strengthening activities. For older adults that are older
than 65 years old, it becomes a bit harder for them to do 150 minutes of moderate-intensity
aerobic exercise because most of them are ill of chronic diseases. In this case, they should do as
much as they their strength allows. This will help them maintain shape and avoid idleness which
may turn very dangerous when it comes to psychological problems.
The two models have a similar intent. That is improving physical health, psychological health
and wellbeing of a person across lifetime. Playing, laughing and encouraging a sense of humor
is directly related to mental health which in turn connects to physical health. Exercise, on the
other hand connects directly to physical health which will connect to mental health as well. If the
two models are done jointly, they will produce results which ensures a great outcome. However,
they also possesses some differences. Laughter and humor are largely influenced by the

environment one is in. For example, one may just decide to lough, but the loss of a loved one
forces them not to be happy. However, exercise largely depend on the person themselves. If I
decide to do some exercises, minimal external factors can influence my decision.
