The medical profession requires all the doctors and nurses observe high standards of behavior while carrying out their duties. Good medical practice involves the establishment of trust, respect, confidentiality, honesty and accountability between the professions in the field and the patients. Staff members may involve themselves in unethical practices. Such practices include giving out sensitive information to a third party without the knowledge of the patient and failure to protect the rights of children. Practicing medical under the influence of alcohol and other drugs is unethical. The trust of the patient in the doctor is of utter importance in the medical profession, and one the doctor should secure for proper treatment and cooperation of the patient (Roemer & Friedman, 1971).
