. Principles of safeguarding the safety of patients that are involved in this case are beneficence and nonmaleficence. In the nursing context, the beneficence principle is undertaken in three ways which involve preventing and removing harm as well as promoting good. However, as much as this principle is geared towards the good of the patient, it sometimes opens doors for conflict. In this case, the nurses and staff at the hospital where Mr. Garcia was restrained temporary, the nurses failed to take into account that Mr. Garcia could escape from the hospital. In their action, they were acting in good faith to prevent harm from coming to the patient. On the part of the wife, she sees this as not enough and hence the conflict of interests between the concerned parties. Moreover, nonmaleficence also related to beneficence in that the nurses acted in good faith by not restraining Mr. Garcia too hard to prevent harm from coming to him. In aIDition, they did not place guards outside his room so that they could avoid harming him psychologically since he appeared normal.
