Post an entry in your journal outlining three possible topics for that essay.

If you are a parent, you might consider issues about your children’s education. including the need for strong math and science instruction throughout their educations, or about their physical health and the need for responsible choices in school lunches and for mandatory physical education in every grade of school. As a student yourself, you might choose to talk about how to revise Federal Student Aid programs to best support students, or you might consider investigating the most promising careers for students graduating in the next five years.

You could investigate bullying in schools, the importance of early childhood education, the separation of church and state, whose responsibility it should be for environmental protection, the importance or hindrance of unions in the workplace, and others. You should start by reflecting on issues that are important to you and on which it is possible to have more than one point of view.

Once you have found three possible topics, post your ideas to the journal. Explain your interests in the topics and the challenges you expect to encounter. Your instructor will respond to your ideas and offer guidance for moving forward.
